Geotab wins TCA approval for GO9B telematics device
Mon, 27th Jul 2026 (Today)
Geotab has received Transport Certification Australia type approval for its GO9B telematics device, adding a second Geotab device to the National Telematics Framework for Australian heavy vehicle operators.
TCA approved the GO9B as a Level 2 assurance device under the framework. Eligible operators can now use either the GO9B or the earlier GO9-LTM device to enrol in framework schemes through Geotab's certified Application Service Provider platform.
The approval expands fleet options as Heavy Vehicle National Law reforms introduce new accreditation requirements. Operators already using the GO9-LTM can keep their existing hardware, while fleets adopting the GO9B can use an approved device without moving to another provider platform.
Compliance options
Under the National Telematics Framework, eligible transport operators can use the devices for Telematics Monitoring Application and Road Infrastructure Management schemes. Telematics Monitoring Application supports heavy vehicle access management by monitoring vehicle location, time and identity for approved government schemes.
Road Infrastructure Management collects road use data from enrolled vehicles. Road managers use that data to track infrastructure use and inform network planning.
Geotab had already secured certification as a TCA Application Service Provider and previously obtained type approval for the GO9-LTM. With the GO9B now added, it can offer approved hardware and access to enrolment in relevant schemes through the same platform.
The latest approval comes as compliance systems become more important for transport operators managing regulated access and reporting requirements. For fleets, the ability to keep current equipment in service while adding another approved device may reduce disruption when updating telematics arrangements.
Industry backdrop
Transport Certification Australia, a subsidiary of Austroads, oversees the National Telematics Framework. Its role includes assessing telematics and vehicle-based technologies so transport agencies can collect verified data from vehicles for regulatory and road management purposes.
The framework is designed to standardise how government agencies, transport operators and technology providers interact. In practice, it creates a common structure for approved telematics applications used in compliance and infrastructure programs.
Geotab said the GO9B approval extends the range of devices available to heavy transport customers in Australia and that both the GO9B and GO9-LTM remain certified for use under the framework.
The company has a large international telematics business, serving more than 100,000 customers and connecting about 6 million vehicles and assets. In Australia, the latest approval strengthens its position in the regulated heavy vehicle market, where operators must align in-vehicle technology with government-recognised schemes.
Single platform
The arrangement allows eligible fleets to manage National Telematics Framework participation alongside other connected vehicle functions through one system. That may appeal to operators seeking to avoid separate compliance tools across different parts of their fleet.
The approval also covers specific GO9B model and stock-keeping units identified by Geotab for the Australian market. The TCA-approved GO9B model is GDSAA1, with the relevant SKUs listed as GO9-LTEB1TLS and GO9-LTEB2TEN.
For the existing GO9-LTM device, the approved SKUs are GO9-LTMTLS and GO9-LTMTENO. Keeping those products certified means current customers do not need to replace installed hardware to remain within approved framework arrangements.
Geotab also outlined the role of Telematics Monitoring Application in supporting approved schemes, including optional support for vehicle configuration and driver self-declaration. Support for Smart On-Board Mass systems is due to be added.
It said the combination of device approval and Application Service Provider certification gives eligible transport operators a government-recognised telematics route for compliance and fleet management through one platform.
